meet me half way

i have always been a patron of dunkin donuts. in my high school days, my clasmates and I usually find time after school to treat ourselves with a donut or two either in DD pantranco or DD frisco. i was sad over DD frisco’s closure sometine in the late 90’s. 

the oldest DD i could recall was DD munoz. i could recall ordering eclairs and hot choco when my aunt would bring me there for a treat. but long ago it closed down. it was the biggest DD i have ever went to.

last year, DD re-opened in frisco but with lesser space. it made me and renee happy. we don’t have to go to pantranco to grab a boston cream or chocolate donuts of ney’s choice or an assortment of munchkins.  when i buy a dozen of DDs, 100% guaranteed, i see ney’s eyes sparkle in joy and i’d receive a tight hug.

this month, i saw carpenters fixing ceilings at DD frisco. that’s what i thought. the following day, i felt sad when i saw a sign hanging on the same ceiling “this space is for lease”. yes, for the second time DD frisco shut down.

today, i was hoping to get a dose of iced coffee. so from kamias extension, i boarded a fairview bound jeep. i got off philcoa to go to DD philcoa. i don’t know what to feel when i saw the branch empty, locked and its windows dusty.

DD philcoa are among the oldest DDs i have ever known. and i have been stopping for merienda there during summers of my college days (when i cross-enroll at UPD). how can it ever go bankcrupt? students from UPD, residents nearby must be very sad, as sad as i am.

for now the nearest DD to us is DD pantranco. it operates 24 hours and i hope it doesn’t go out of business

11 years ago, pumunta ako sa PUP para sa isang LFS Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) Meeting. bukod pa sa RCC, pumunta ako sa PUP para makipagkamustahan, makipagkwentuhan, makipagtitigan. in short, para makipaglandian. matapos ang RCC wala naman nang dahilan para tumambay pa sa PUP. kaya nagpasya kaming umuwi ng sabay. mahirap nga bang sumakay nang araw na iyon kung kayat naglakad kami magmula araneta avenue hanggang bahay? hindi ko na maalala. pero sa gitna ng aming maikling prusisyon iyon, ay natapos ang kanyang panliligaw. inihatid nya ako sa bahay at umuwing may ngiti sa mata at labi.
